2019 AQHA Select All-Around Crowned

AQHA crowns the 2019 Sundowner Trailers AQHA Select All-Around Amateur and Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition Award recipient.

During the past week, 64 AQHA Select all-around amateur contenders competed in a variety of events throughout the AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan).

The 2019 Sundowner Trailers AQHA Select All-Around Amateur is Sharon Forbes-Hanks of Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Forbes-Hanks showed her American Quarter Horse Hot Lil Assets. The 2009 sorrel mare, by Protect Your Assets and out of Barbies Hot Rod, was bred by Cheryl Lang of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Forbes-Hanks and Hot Lil Assets earned 50 points. They earned the reserve world championship in showmanship, placed third in horsemanship and hunt seat equitation, fourth in performance halter mares and ninth in western riding.

Forbes-Hanks received a prize package that included a one-year lease of a Sundowner three-horse trailer, an original Lisa Perry bronze and rose bouquet.

The reserve Select all-around amateur is Gretchen Ingersoll of Londonderry, New Hampshire. Ingersoll showed her American Quarter Horse Good By Me. The 2013 bay gelding, by Zippos Mr Good Bar and out of A Sweet Romance, was bred by Karen Howe-Misko of Plano, Texas. Ingersoll and Good By Me earned 48 points. They won the world championship titles in equitation over fences and hunt seat equitation, reserve world championship title in working hunter, placed fifth in hunter hack and seventh in hunter under saddle.

The third-place Select all-around amateur is Jim Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Bound showed the American Quarter Horse Bound To Paint Chex, who is owned by daughter Jax Bound of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The 2010 palomino gelding, by Helluva Chex and out of Guns Brownie, was bred by Hilldale Farm of Brashear, Texas. Bound and Bound To Paint Chex earned 39 points. They earned the world championship titles in breakaway and tie-down roping, reserve world championship in heading and placed 10th in stake race.

Bound is the fourth-place all-around amateur with American Quarter Horse Bound To Be Dun, owned by JB Bound of Fort Atkinson. The 2008 red dun gelding, who is by Dun It Gotta Gun and out of Not Dun Cookin, was bred by Jim’s wife, Lisa Lubbert of Fort Atkinson. Bound and Bound To Be Dun earned 33 points. They earned the world championship title in heading, placed fourth in tie-down, fifth in breakaway and seventh in stake race.

The fifth-place Select all-around amateur is Dan Yeager of Dallas. Yeager showed the American Quarter Horse Cracking The Code. The 2010 chestnut gelding, by VS Code Red and out of Shes A Krymsun, was bred by Susan and James Smanik of Maineville, Ohio. Yeager and Cracking The Code earned 30 points. They earned the world champion title in horsemanship, placed fifth in showmanship and 12th in trail

The Select all-around amateur third- through fifth-place award winners received a prize package that included $1,000.

Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition


AQHA also awarded the Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition Award. The award is presented to the Super-Select exhibitor, age 70 and over, earning the greatest number of points in competition at the 2019 Adequan® Select World. This year, 85 exhibitors competed for the award.

Twylla Lynn Brown of Perry, Missouri, and her American Quarter Horse Snap Krackle Pop won the reserve world championship in performance halter mares, placed third in trail and were finalists in western pleasure.

Snap Krackle Pop, a two-time AQHA Superhorse, is a 2010 gray mare by RL Best of Sudden and out of Brandys Silver Sheik. The mare was bred by Masterson Farms LLC of Somerville, Tennessee.
Brown and Snap Krackle Pop received a specially designed plaque for their accomplishment.
The Adequan® Select World is the world’s largest, single-breed championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and over. This is the pinnacle event for Select amateur competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes, representing English, over fences, western, speed, cattle and halter events.
