Who’s ready for spring? We know you are. The first few months of 2019 have seen record snow fall and low temperatures across the country. With the arrival of the month of March, better weather is certain to be right around the corner. With warmer temperatures come the big spring shows and everything we love about this time of year.
Throughout the month of March, many people will celebrate spring break, St. Patrick’s Day and basketball’s March Madness. However, in our horse world, it’s the month that horses are being bred and born, you hope your chaps still fit, and there’s a sense of excitement about the upcoming show year.
Here’s to spring!

About the Cover
The March Spring Shows issue of GoMag features Tali Terlizzi of Montville, New Jersey and her 2018 Reserve Congress Champion, Kruze Control (Jewel). This team is showing in the 3-year-old events this year under the guidance of Farley McLendon of Whitesboro, Texas.
Kruze Control is a 2016 mare by The Krymsum Kruzer out of the mare, How Bout An Asset.
“She has to be the sweetest, easiest and quietest mare that we have ever been around,” Tali told us. “Jewel is quiet enough for me to show her while I was pregnant and to take my son, Knox, who’s 1, for pony rides. Farley’s 9-year-old daughter, Ellie gets up there and makes it look easy. The mare knows her job and there’s nothing complicated about her. She’s truly a special horse.”
Some of Kruze Control’s impressive wins from last year include Tom Powers 2-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Champion, Tom Powers Open Reserve Champion and Reserve Congress Champion in the 2-Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle.
When Tali first saw Jewel as a yearling, she recalls that she was hairy and pretty plain looking. “The mare was a diamond in the rough, so that’s why we named her Jewel. She was fancy and natural from the start – flat legged up front, could trot super lofty, lope strong and slow and her neck naturally just laid where it needed to.”
Terlizzi states that working with McLendon has been a great experience. “Farley keeps a select group of horses and customers and devotes her time equally to make sure we are all happy. We always joke around and say that she’s our personal trainer.”
Terlizzi has three additional horses in training with McLendon; Congress Champion Sensational Assets who will be shown in the Maturities, Senior and Amateur Events, Will Be Sky Walkin who will be shown in the Level 1 and Limited classes and their 2-year-old for this year, Toddy Makes Ya Sleep.
“Last year, my goal was to win a trophy, which we accomplished,” Tali states. “However, we won a lot of red ribbons, so my goal this year is to win some blue and maybe a neck sash or two.”
