About the Cover

On the cover of GoMag this month is Its A Southern Thing, who may just happen to be the perfect match for your mare. Owned by Amy Gumz of Gumz Farms, “Moonpie” is a 2010 bay stallion by Only In The Moonlite and out of Shesa Hot Cookie.

In 2017, many of his offspring started making a name for themselves. Moonpie has had ApHC and APHA World Champion Longe Liners, as well as Congress and NSBA World Top 5. The stallion also sired his first Congress champion in the Limited Two-Year-Old Western Pleasure Sale Stakes.

GoHorseShow asked Moonpie’s owner, Amy Gumz, what common traits she has noticed with most of his babies. “Our biggest foal crop is now two years old, so we are starting to get feedback from all sides. Most rave on their minds and trainability, and they all seem to say they take off where they leave off from the day before. We have many in the western pleasure, hunter under saddle and trail barns, and we are pleased with how well they are being received – great versatility and talent.”

“In my opinion, having a stallion is a seven-year plan to see if he is a sire,” Gumz shares. “We’ve set up a million obstacles – some purposeful and some not – for him to fail, and it looks like he’s going to make it. We couldn’t be more pleased with the supportive breeders and owners for all their success, support and promotion.”
