About the Cover

The 2018 AQHYA World Show is bittersweet for 18-year-old Emma Brown of Zanesville, Ohio. Since this is her last year in youth, it will be her final time to step foot into the Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City as a youth exhibitor. Brown and her 11-year-old gelding, Some Hot Potential (Brett) will be showing in the trail, horsemanship, western pleasure and showmanship under the guidance of Judd and Jennifer Paul.

Currently leading the nation in AQHA Youth Trail and sitting third in the All-Around standings, “I have high expectations for this youth world because it’s my last one,” Emma states. “I would like to do well in the trail. I have been working very hard all year leading up to this, so all we can do is hope for the best. Being a world champion is my goal, but If that doesn’t happen this year, then I hope to complete that goal in my amateur career with Brett.”

Emma talks fondly about her once-in-a-lifetime horse. “Brett has taught me more than I could have ever imagined. When I walk into the barn, he nickers. Our bond is so special and I can never replace how special he is to me. He will always be a part of our family; he is truly my forever horse.”

Emma and Brett have had a stellar youth career together. Emma’s favorite win was at the 2017 All American Quarter Horse Congress in the 15-18 Youth Trail (pictured left). “I was very nervous because it is a huge show, but Brett, of course, was his perfect self and was a complete angel through the entire pattern,” Emma recalls. “When I was finished, I knew it was a good pattern, but I didn’t expect to get that high of a score. I scored a 239.5 which was the highest score of the entire 2017 Congress. I was just so proud of Brett and his effort.”

Another highlight of Brett’s career came in 2017 as well when Emma’s trainer, Jennifer Paul won the AQHA World Show in the Senior Trail. “We were not able to watch in person, but we were watching on the live feed in our hotel room. The overwhelming amount of joy we felt when they called them as world champions was one like no other.”

Emma, who is headed to Auburn University in the fall, would like to thank her trainers, Judd and Jennifer Paul for their hard work and dedication. She would also like to thank her parents for their support and Brett for always giving his all and being her forever horse.

We wish Emma and Some Hot Potential the best of luck in Oklahoma City.
