Congress Super Sale Results: Overall High Seller Brings $35,000

The 2017 All American Quarter Horse Congress Super Sale sold 153 horses during Saturday’s nine-hour sale in the Lausche Building.

Overall, organizers are pleased with the results of the sale which showed an 8.7% increase in horses sold.

The 2017 Congress Super Sale showed a strong market with an overall average sale price of $8,854. That posted an increase of 20% over the 2016 average. When the dust settled the Overall High Seller and Yearling Sale Stakes High Seller was a no sale in the ring and purchased by Andrew R Drnjevich, Ravenna, Ohio, later during the day at $75,000 was Hip # 34, Cant Stop Lopin, a 2016 sorrel mare sired by Lopin My Best and out of Make Mine An Odyssey. She was consigned by Gord Wadds, Agent for Gerri Leigh Pratt. The High Selling Stallion Yearling Sale Stakes and Overall High Seller through the ring at $35,000 was Hip #89, SST Hez Flat Special, a 2016 bay roan stallion by VS Flatline. He was consigned by Steven and Susan Thompson,OH, and purchased by Dr. Gail Mason & Jeff Temple, Brunswick, ME.

The yearling sale stakes session gives Western Pleasure horse enthusiasts an opportunity to buy top quality Yearlings. Yearlings purchased during the 2017 sale will be eligible for the 2 Year Old Sale Stakes Western Pleasure classes to be held at the 2018 All American Quarter Horse Congress, with a $250 sustaining fee paid by the buyer.

Yearlings sold in 2016 were shown Friday for a purse of $64,500, to be paid in Open and Non-Pro divisions. PLUS, the Ohio Quarter Horse Association added an additional $10,000 to be paid to Limited riders in both divisions. The Limited Rider Purse will be paid with $6,000 to the Open ($3,000, $2,000, $1,000) and $4,000 to the Non Pro ($2,000, $1,250, $750).

Scott Frye and Hes The Candyman took home the inaugural Congress Super Sale 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure Champion Title on Friday evening. The pair won $11,561.75. Cole Baker and Invited To Batt followed in second place with Joshua Brown and KM Shaken Not Stirred in third.

Mallory Menard and Rite Off The Batt nabbed the Congress Super Sale 2-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure Champion title winning just under $7,000, while Ray Anona followed in second place.

The Congress Super Sale is an auction of the highest caliber; a place to purchase some of the best quality American Quarter Horses in the industry. The Congress Super Sale began as part of the very first All American Quarter Horse Congress in 1967 and has been a staple of the show ever since. Every year the Super Sale provides buyers with the opportunity to bid on young show prospects, seasoned show horses, broodmares and stallions. Many horses sold at the Congress Super Sale have gone on to become Congress and World champions.
