GoHorseShow is excited to report that Select Amateur, Bonnie Sheren of Studio City, California has added another great horse to her lineup. Last year, she purchased Heza Radical Zip from Susie Johns. Recently, Sheren purchased More Radical (Rodney) from Kathy Tobin. Tobin and Johns are sisters while Rodney and Troy are by Radical Rodder.
“I love that I bought two brothers from two sisters,” Sheren excitedly told us. “We tried him at Sun Circuit, and I had the same reaction I had when I tried out Heza Radical Zip (Troy) almost a year ago. I got butterflies in my stomach, a combination of excitement and nervousness. Excitement over the idea of owning another horse of such a high caliber and nervousness over how I could live up to all the success Kathy had with him.”
Rodney’s former owner, Kathy Tobin, kindly adds, “Best wishes to Bonnie and Rodney, and I hope they have a lot of success in the future.”
The 2004 bay gelding and Tobin are back-to-back (2015-16) AQHA Select World Champions in the Western Riding as well as Congress Champions in the Amateur Select Western Riding. Rodney has amassed over 1,000 points and multiple top 10’s at the AQHA World and Congress in several classes over the years.
“I had asked the Searles for the last couple of years if they would sell Rodney, and it was always a no,” Jason Martin told us. “Then, at one show, it was a maybe, so I kept asking. When they said yes, we jumped on the opportunity before they could change their minds.”
After finalizing the deal, Sheren’s debut on Rodney was a few weeks ago at the Texas Amateur Show in Waco, Texas.
“I went to Highpoint Performance Horses a couple days before the show to practice and our debut was a success. I qualified him for the Select World in Trail, and I only need one more point in Western Riding. Charlie (Cole) picked up lots of points and told me he really likes riding and showing him. He is really fun to show and he has a very cute personality. He seems to like being loved on.”
Sheren adds, “I’m so grateful to Kathy Tobin and Jim and Deanna Searles for giving me this opportunity. I know selling Rodney wasn’t an easy decision. I’m very proud they entrusted me with Rodney. Also, a huge thank you to my trainers, Jason and Charlie, for offering me this opportunity and always having my best interest at heart.”
