The Michigan Quarter Horse Association kicked off its 2017 show tour on April 12-16, 2017 with their Easter EggStravaganza. The show is held every year at the Michigan State University Pavilion in East Lansing, Michigan. In 2016, the show made the Top 10 list from AQHA and didn’t disappoint this year.
Over 7,100 entries and 375 stalls sold made for a busy weekend. The show was managed by Kurtis and Elizabeth Gear of EKG Equine Services.
Both are familiar with MQHA because of their own show experience and family ties, but say that, “After 15 years away from the Michigan Quarter Horse Circuit, it was a thrilling and challenging experience to come back as part of the show management team for one of the ten largest shows in the country. We would like to thank long-time MQHA show manager Kris Woroniecki for her support and guidance the last few months as we prepared for the event.”
EKG Equine Services has been booked to manage the remainder of the MQHA shows for 2017. “We are honored to have been presented the opportunity to manage all of the MQHA owned shows.” They will return again April 28-30, 2017 for the MQHYA Spartan Spectacular.
EKG did a great job running such a big show, especially for their first one. The show got done earlier in the evening almost every night and they implemented a lot of new things that exhibitors were happy about. Great job MQHA and crew.”
MQHA Youth were also busy at the show outside of the arena. Friday evening consisted of stuffing Easter eggs for their annual fundraiser. The eggs were then sold to raise money for the world show and NYATT teams. The youth also put on an egg hunt for the younger group.
Michelle McCarthy Warda had multiple clients in attendance and explained why the show is always one of their favorites. “The numbers are usually good and for many of my customers it’s the first one of the season and they are excited to be back in the pen. The atmosphere was positive with activities for the kids, food for the people in attendance and MQHA is always looking for better ways serve the exhibitor.”
The show offered a pizza party, breakfast, t-shirt giveaways and circuit awards. MQHA would like to thank Mary Wilkosz (A&W Manistee), Baldwin Quarter Horses, Ryan Lindsay Horse Shoeing, Mark and Judy Zeitler Quarter Horses, Noble Hills Farm, McCarthy Warda Performance Horses, and Chris’ Custom Creations for their generous sponsorships.
Both the MQHA and youth board of directors honored Tom Carter of Toledo Ticket Company for his support of the association. Tom serves as the main sponsor at many Michigan events.
