About the Cover

On the April cover of GoMag is Kathryn deVries Mitchell and her two talented mares, One Hot Sultry Night (Angel), and Good Money Machine (Molly). They are under the guidance of Kellie Hinely of Trendsetter Performance Horses.

“I am so blessed to have Molly and Angel. Showing mares can be different, but these two are so sweet and happy. They always try and never give me a grumpy mare face,” Kathryn told us. “Our short-term goals are to get them both qualified in their events and our long term goals are to raise some great babies out of them.”

Mitchell will be showing One Hot Sultry Night at the Level 1 West Championships in the hunter under saddle and maybe the equitation. “As I have only been showing western events the last ten years, it’s a bit nerve-wracking, but Angel loves it and is a doll to show, so I’m excited to do it.”

Kathryn currently shows Angel in the trail and hunter under saddle and Molly in the western pleasure and showmanship. Her trainer, Kellie Hinely, has been teaching both the all-around events. As both mares are pretty new to Kathryn, she says her favorite wins were in February at the Silver Dollar Circuit. Angel won the Green All Around, and Molly got qualified for the AQHA World Show in her very first time showing in the Junior Trail.

Mitchell, who has trained with Hinely for five years, says she enjoys working with Kellie. “She’s amazing, and her team is top notch. They all genuinely care that your horses have the best care, are prepared to the top of their ability, and above all, that you have an enjoyable show experience.”

Hinely adds, “Kathryn and her husband, Cody, have been a pleasure to work with. They are breeding great mares with famous stallions. I’m so excited for these babies to go to their show homes and put Cody and Kathryn on the map of ‘go to’ breeders to find a show prospect. These mares have such potential, and I’m humbled that she has chosen me to represent these great horses.”
