With great sadness, Masterson Farms, LLC, announces the euthanasia of Zippos Sheik due to severe laminitis. Sheik, with great heart and determination, had successfully battled through several bouts of laminitis over the past several months. However, increasing rotation and sinking, and the further pain he would have endured, forced the decision to end his life in as peaceful and dignified a manner as possible.
Zippos Sheik, a red sorrel stallion, foaled on April 3, 1992, was by Zippo Pine Bar and out of Sheik’s Cover. He sired 436 foals among which were a number of outstanding pleasure horses such as My Body’s Sheik, Genuine Sheik, Step Out With Sheik, Jet Set Sheik, Sheiks Miss Jazmitaz, Mr Smooth Sheik, Hanks A Skip N Zippo, and Taylor Made Sheik. Upon his death, his foals had lifetime earnings of $370,000.
Sheik was much loved by everyone at Masterson Farms, LLC, and he will be greatly missed. His unique personality, beauty, and character endeared him to those who worked with and knew him. He will be long and affectionately remembered with admiration and respect as an outstanding example of the quarter horse breed.
Our sincerest condolences go out to everyone in the Masterson Farm family. The Sheik was so incredibly special and the Masterson’s love for him was so touching.
