The National Snaffle Bit Association honored veterans on Saturday during the World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa when the show hosted its annual Heroes On Horses class for Independent Riders.
The Heroes On Horses saw 18 riders compete for a world championship title, and when the judges cards were tallied, the veteran who had won the very first Heroes On Horses class had earned his second world championship. Kent Knox, who served two years of active duty in the Army, showed I Gotta Good Name to the win.
“I won the very first Heroes On Horses, so I have two belt buckles now,” Kent said. “But this one means so much more because there are so many of us. This is such a great class. We all look forward to it every year. It’s not about the buckle. It’s about spending time with my fellow servicemen.”
Trainers held practice sessions with the exhibitors on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and the participants also had a pizza party on Friday where they were able to share their experiences and horse stories.

Friday’s Results
Several NSBA members saw a fantastic Friday at the NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity, winning futurity and world championship titles throughout the day.
Tonya Brown earned the last world champion title of the day in the Ford Truck Arena, showing Blazing Moonlight to win Senior Western Riding for Bruce and Bobbi Shaw.
“I really wasn’t expecting this. I was just hoping to make the top ten! My horse was really well prepared today, and just really on,” Tonya said. “He really by nature loves the Western Riding and likes to do it. Nancy Renfro helped me this week. It’s an unusual pattern here at the NSBA World Show with the stage in the middle, and we practiced quite a bit for the stage.

In the Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure, Jenna Dempze and Special N I Know It earned the world championship title. “She was such a good girl,” Jenna said of her mare, whose barn name is Rocket. “It’s been fun to watch her grown up so much this summer. Wednesday’s Winners
Wednesday started with color and ended with color in the Ford Truck Arena during the 2016 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity. The first class of the day was the Breeders Championship Futurity Color 3-6 Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle, and ended with the Color Maturity Open Hunter Under Saddle, with several Hunter Under Saddle and Western Pleasure classes in between. We caught up with some of the class champions.

Keith Miller piloted Pretty Assets to the world champion title in the Three Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle for Meghan Tierney, while Beth Case showed Not Just Anyhoo to the world champion award in the Maturity Open Hunter Under Saddle.
“He’s won the two’s, three’s and now the Maturity here,” said Rebekah Kazakevicius, owner of Not Just Anyhoo. “He’s such a good boy, and he has nothing left to prove!”

Monday’s Winners
Although a lot of people don’t like Mondays, Monday at the NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity saw several BCF futurity and world champions named as the second day of the event came to a close.
Hunter Under Saddle Champions
In the Ford Truck Arena, Hunter Under Saddle classes began the day, with Deanna Searles and Al Be Desirable taking the first championship of the day in the Breeders Championship Futurity 4-6 Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle.
The five year old mare is known as Lola, and is by Allocate Your Assets and out of an Art I Sweet mare. “She had won the Congress Masters Hunter Under Saddle as a two year old,” Deanna said.
“She’s one of those horses that if you love her, she’ll love you. She has so much rhythm. She’s fun to ride. My goal with her was to do well in this class, and I’m very pleased with how she did. I’m not sure what’s next for her – maybe jumping.

The National Snaffle Bit Association jumped right into its World Championship Show competition on Sunday with a full set of over fence classes and a concurrent AQHA special event show in the Ford Truck Arena on the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
There were several multiple world champions, but none had a greater day than the trio of trainer Linda Crothers, owner Rodger Call and Go Big Sky. Linda and Go Big Sky won the first class of the day, the Working Hunter Derby, and the last class of the day, Senior Hunter Hack, along with Open Working Hunter. Rodger earned world champion titles in Select Amateur 50 & Over Working Hunter and Select Amateur 50 & Over Hunter Hack.

“He carried me,” Rodger said. “He was a good boy. In the Working Hunter, I behaved myself and didn’t lift my hands.”
