About the Cover
Nineteen-year-old Natasha Blanchard of Lumberton, Texas is poised to end her last year in youth on a high note. “My last youth year has been a whirlwind with ups and downs,” Natasha told us. “I’m really sad to be in my last year in youth, but I’m excited about this year.”
At the AQHYA World Show, Blanchard will be showing Potential Advantage (Cindy) in trail and western riding under the guidance of Highpoint Performance Horses and Only A Breeze (Abby) in western pleasure under the supervision of Rusty and Katie Green.
“I love everything about Cindy,” Natasha says. “She has been so amazing this year and I just love her personality. Abby has also been really great. She loves to show with her ears up and always gives me 100% in the show ring.”
This past December, Natasha’s mother, Darla Blanchard, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Darla was always highly supportive of her daughter and the two were inseparable. “My mom meant everything to me. She was my best friend and my number one fan.”
Natasha’s father, Tommy Blanchard, adds, “Darla’s passion was Natasha and they were a great team. Looking back over the past few years, it is comforting to remember all the family time we had together. We have always been a very close family, but the horse business allowed us the opportunity to spend even more time together. That is something I will never forget.”
Natasha says that her father has also been one of her biggest cheerleaders. “My dad has been so supportive of me, my dreams and my horses.”
Tommy would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support after the loss of his wife. “Everyone just made it so easy to come back to the shows after she passed. My horse show family is a very special group of people and I am glad to have met all of them through our mutual passion for showing horses.”
Natasha, who graduated from high school in June, says that her future plans are to attend the Lamar Institute of Technology and compete as an amateur. Her future goals in the show pen are to win the World Show and All-American Quarter Horse Congress. We wish her the best of luck.
