Daughter of VS Code Red Wins Kim Rich Memorial Class and Check for $3,000

The Third Annual Kim Rich Memorial was this past weekend at the Summer Sizzler in Montgomery, Alabama. The winner of the Green Western Pleasure was announced Sunday and the winner came away with a check for $3,000. The second through fifth place winners divided one hundred percent of the entry fee and sixth through tenth received their entry fee back.

Trainer Nick Mayabb of Dacula, Georgia rode VS Code Me Lucky (Marla) to win the class. Mayabb had three firsts, two thirds and a fourth to take home the championship. The assistant trainer for Mayabb, Dustin Millsap, was reserve champion on Suddenly Moonlight for Steve and Cindy Durham.

Marla is a three-year-old red roan mare by VS Code Red who is owned by Mike and Lisa Wilkes.

“They bred and raised her,” Nick told us after his win. “They sent her to me last year as a two-year-old, and we decided to hold her off till she was three for the novice horse events. She is as natural and fun as any horse I’ve ever shown. She’s only been shown at three shows, but every time, she has gone in the pen, it’s been the same. She is very honest and does her job.”

Mayabb adds, “It was very nice winning this class in honor of Kim Rich since she loved the western pleasure classes so much. It was also great to be a part of the other horses that have won this class over the years. Thanks to the Rich family and Jan Shepherd Pittman for putting on this nice class.”

Amateur Jan Shepherd Pittman of Panama City, Florida was instrumental in getting this memorial class started to honor her friend who passed away in September 2013. “What a great tribute to the memory of a great horsewoman, friend, mom, and daughter,” Pittman says. “I know Kim is smiling down upon us.”

On behalf of the Kim Rich Memorial Class, Pittman would like to thank David and Betty Rich, Amy and Rich Kirkus, VS Code Blue, Pilot Knob Quarter Horses, Steve and Cheryl Eagerton Cardwell Quarter Horses, Jean Shanklin Brooks of High Road Ranch and Kathy Tobin for being sponsors.
