The Breeders Halter Futurity (BHF) and National Halter Championships (NHC) just wrapped up in Des Moines, Iowa where some of the best of the best in the halter industry competed for money and prizes. The shows passed out checks and prizes totaling $1,240,000 and according to several reports, it was even bigger and better than last year. The most prestigious prizes were reserved for amateurs who bred, raised and exhibited their own horses by stallions from the nominated group. The biggest payouts were for the Amateur Breeders that showed in the weanling colts and fillies with a payout of $20,000 for the winners. The Amateur Breeders yearling colts and fillies had payouts of $12,000 and the Open Breeders Classes had payouts of $8,750 for the winners.
“This really is a premier halter show, all the biggest names and best horses are here,” says amateur Kathryn deVries whose two year-old stallion, My Good Intention ended up third in his class.”The quality and depth of the classes are just amazing. It’s an honor to do well here. The money and trophies make it all the better.”
Breeders Halter Futurity judge Debbie Kail of Scottsdale, Arizona was impressed with the quality of horses at the show. “I really enjoyed judging with fellow horsemen and friends Jeffrey Pait, Bruce Walquist, John Boxell and John Shepard. It was a well run event with great horses and exhibitors with awesome awards and big time money.”
