The 2015 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity saw a record number of entries and horses enter the Built Ford Truck Livestock Complex in Tulsa, OK, over the past eight days.
Final numbers saw a record 4,180 show entries, besting last year’s high mark, which was 3,590. All of those horses, owners and exhibitors add up to a total economic impact of the 2015 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity on the Tulsa area economy is estimated to be $30.8 million.
The final day of the horse show saw world and futurity champions crowned in three arenas of competition. We caught up with some of the world champions who were crowned on the show’s final day.
Troy Lehn piloted Pretty Assets to the world title in Two Year Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle for owner Alexandra Chavez. They are shown at left. “She is the best minded horse,” Chavez said of the two year old filly by Allocate Your Assets. “She looks a lot like my other horse Duke, and riding her is a lot like him too.”

High Selling Yearling Brings $203,000 to Highlight Friday at the NSBA World
Friday at the NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity saw a high selling record at the 2015 NSBA Kaplow Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale, as well as Longe Line, Color, Western Pleasure, Western Riding and Hunter Under Saddle champions crowned.
The NSBA Kaplow Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity saw strong sale prices for well-bred yearlings. The high seller of the sale brought a record-breaking $203,000. Always Seymour, a black colt by One Hot Krymsum and out of Shes Always The Talk (by Always The Choice), consigned by Laura Lovegreen, was purchased by Magnuson Farms LLC.
“Nice horses sold extremely well,” said Mike Jennings, owner of Professional Auction Services, LLC, which managed the sale. “It was very exciting to sell a yearling for $203,000 in any market, especially at the NSBA yearling sale. He is a quality yearling, and the public appreciated seeing a good one. I don’t recall a yearling bringing that price in any other performance market.”

Thursday Sees More Champions at NSBA World Show
Thursday saw the preview of consignments to the NSBA Kaplow Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale, as well as crowned a number of Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation and EWD world champions at the NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity in Tulsa.
Leslie “Bear” Lange and Kammanyawannadance closed out Thursday’s classes and proved their versatility by winning the world championship in Maturity Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle for owner Peyton Bivins. ‘Collin’ had won world titles in the Working Hunter Derby and Open Working Hunter earlier in the show with Ryan Painter in the saddle.
“We’ve been showing him for 12 years, and he’s been the bridesmaid so many times in the Hunter Under Saddle,” Lange said. “It feels really good to earn a world champion title for him in a Hunter Under Saddle class.”

A Winning Wednesday Crowns Futurity and World Champions
A winning Wednesday found additional Breeders Championship futurity and world champions crowned at the NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity in Tulsa, Oklahoma. So far, the show has seen more than 4,000 entries and more than 1,800 stalls sold at the 2015 event, which has broken participation records during the world show’s tenth anniversary.
In the BCF Intermediate Open Two Year Old Western Pleasure, Jim Searles piloted Ona Good Kiss for Susan Johns to the futurity win. “This is her third time to be shown,” Searles said. “She just got really comfortable in this pen and just did her job. We got her as a long yearling, and broke her out as a team. I have to give my wife, Deanna, and Chris Holbin credit for all working with her.”

More World Champions Named Tuesday at NSBA World Show
The NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity continued Tuesday in Tulsa, with futurity champions named in Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure and Trail BCF events as well as the show’s Get Of Sire class.
Stephanie Lynn piloted Sensational Asset to win the BCF Four to Six Year Old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle for the John Goldstein Trust, but had to work for the title by competing in one of two splits and a finals.
“I really catch rode him,” Lynn said. “This morning was really the first I got to ride him in three weeks, but he was a very good boy. Natalie and Justin had him tuned up!” Sensational Asset is by Pass The Asset. Gota Dig It and Jennifer Leckey were the reserve champions, riding for Melissa Meeks.

NSBA World Show’s Second Day Sees Champions in Three Arenas
The NSBA World Championship Show and Breeder’s Championship Futurity continued into its second day on Monday, and crowned futurity and world champions in three arenas on the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, OK.
Among Monday’s winners were Beth Case, who earned the first Breeders Championship Futurity trophy cup of the show in the BCF 4-6 Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle, which showed in the Ford Truck Arena. She piloted Willy Has Potential to the championship for owner Shelby Ratliff. They are shown at left. Nancy Sue Ryan piloted Boys Move Over to the reserve award for Cathrin Gutmann.
“He’s always a good boy,” Case said of the gelding by Good I Will Be. “He is the easiest horse ever.” Ratliff went on to win the world champion title in the Maturity Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.

NSBA World Names First Champions in Over Fence, Ranch Riding Classes
The NSBA World Championship Show jumped into its first classes on Sunday with over fence and Ranch Riding classes in the Ford Truck Arena at Built Ford Touch Complex in Tulsa, OK.
A change to the show schedule brought the fence classes from the end of the show in previous years to the front of the show, and exhibitors responded with a 12 percent increase in entries. Ranch Riding also saw a 30 percent increase in entries in the Open and Non-Pro divisions.
