Friday, October 16, 2015, the Congress Corral will be host to the first “Boots & Buckeyes” Gala from 6pm – Midnight. Proceeds will benefit the Earle & Jean Bruce Alzheimer’s Research Fund and The Center for Brain Health at OSU.
The Gala promises to be a spectacular night to remember, with a private concert by Country Band, Parmalee. With such hits as “Carolina”, “Close Your Eyes For This”, and “Already Callin’ You Mine”, Parmalee is a rising star in country music. Along with the music, guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner and a live & silent auction.
“The All American Quarter Horse Congress (AAQHC) wanted to give back to the community for all the support it has shown us in the past and “Boots & Buckeyes” provided an exciting opportunity to do just that,” said Scott Myers, Executive Director of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, who puts on the AAQHC.
Former OSU head football coach Earle Bruce stated, “We are extremely grateful that The Ohio Quarter Horse Association wanted to partner with us to put together this inaugural event. With the support of this great horse community, we hope to raise money to help defeat Alzheimer’s disease and the all-important work of the Center for Brain Health”.
“We are so pleased to have our first Boots & Buckeyes honoree be Springfield, Ohio’s own Shawn Flarida! Shawn is a six time NRHA Open Futurity Champion, six time NRHA Open Derby champion and four time NRBC champion. NRHA’s only 5 Million Dollar Rider and a member of NRHA’s Hall of Fame. He has won five gold medals in World Equestrian Games competition, having won the Team and Individual gold medals in Jerez, Spain in 2002, the Team gold in Lexington, KY 2010 and the Team and Individual gold in 2014. Shawn epitomizes what Boots & Buckeyes is all about – he has brought national attention to the great state of Ohio and is a true Buckeye!”, said Lynn Bruce, Boots & Buckeyes coordinator.
An additional opportunity to support the event is the raffle/coupon book which will be on sale at the Coughlin Automotive Booth in Congress Hall. Boots & Buckeyes will be raffling off a 2-year lease on a truck donated by Coughlin Automotive, and with your raffle ticket purchase, participants will receive a coupon book for area sponsors.
