Rock County Kid, owned by Sharnai Thompson of Pilot Point, Texas was named NSBA’s 2014 Horse of the Year. “Rocky” was campaigned successfully by Sharnai and trainers Rusty and Katie Green and Maggie Grandquist in Open and Non-Pro Western Pleasure events.
Some of the highlights of his year include wins in three year old events at Show For Dough, the Little Futurity, Tom Powers Triple Challenge, NSBA World Championship Show, and All American Quarter Horse Congress. Rocky and Thompson finished out the year by bringing home a world championship title in Amateur Western Pleasure at the AQHA World Show.
In 2014 alone, Rocky amassed earnings of $50,818.15 and 68.25 points in NSBA events. “I hadn’t had a Western Pleasure horse for a long time, and I had started looking for one,” said Thompson. “He’s the one that got me excited about showing in Western Pleasure again. He’s such a good boy. He’s so great minded and such a good mover.”
When asked about Rocky, trainer Rusty Green says, “he is the type of horse that possesses the ‘intangibles’. He has a presence about him that separates him from the pack. There’s no doubt he will go on to do great things in the all around arena as well.”
NSBA congratulates Thompson and Rock County Kid on their success in 2014.
