Final Day of Appaloosa World Ends with ‘Old Pro’ Winning Gold

For Haley Gleeson, 22 year old gelding Undue Influence proved to be the perfect partner for the 2014 show season, and the pair ended the year by being named the ApHC and NSBA champions in Novice Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.
“I had graduated from college and sort of took this year off,” Gleeson said. “I used to show the Western all around classes before I took time off for college, and I thought the Hunter Under Saddle would be a new challenge. I’m good friends with ‘Riley’s’ owner, and I was fortunate that we were able to bring him out of retirement and show together this year.”
Earlier this year, Gleeson and Riley won the Non-Pro All Around title at the Appaloosa National show. “He just packs me around,” Gleeson said. “It is so fun to have a horse that knows the ropes and that you can trust.”
Gleeson was unsure about her future horse show plans. “I would really like to go to vet school, so I’m not sure if I will be taking on a new project next year or not,” she said. “Riley has earned his retirement.”

No Tricks, Just Treats for ApHC World Champions on Halloween
The only tricks to be found on Halloween at the World Championship Appaloosa Show were turning horses into world champions on Friday at the Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas – although there were a few unusual characters in John Justin Arena for a good cause.

Tim and Katy Jo Zuidema had a great Halloween evening after earning treats in the Appaloosa Pleasure Horse Association’s Two Year Old Western Pleasure class. The couple placed first and second, with Katy Jo also earning a bonus as the highest placing female rider in the class.

In his second unanimous win of the 2014 World Championship Appaloosa Show, Tim Zuidema rode Good Timin Charlie to the world champion title for Nettie and David Olsen. The gelding known as Emmett stood at the top of judges Greg Wheat, Rusty Green, Linda Long and Dan Williams’ cards just has he had in the World Show Sale Two Year Old Western Pleasure Incentive Class earlier in the week.

Thursday’s Champions Named at Appaloosa World Show

ApHC and NSBA exhibitors continued to earn world championship titles as the World Championship Appaloosa Show continues in Fort Worth, Texas this week.
Two world champions – Katy Jo Zuidema and Sara Simons – made it to the top of the class by unanimous decision.
Powered By Diesel and Katy Jo Zuidema stood at the top of the cards of judges Delena Doyle, Goose Ballard, Bonnie Miller and Dan Williams to win the World Show Sale Two Year Old Hunter Under Saddle Incentive class. The pair won the largest payout of the day, $4,905, for owners Lisa and Hailey Berger. “We bought him from Lisa Ligon over the winter,” Zuidema said of the gelding know as ‘Diesel.’ “He trained up really well and just got better as the year went on.”

Wednesday’s Winners at 2014 World Championship Appaloosa Show

The World Championship Appaloosa Show got underway on October 24, and NSBA exhibitors have been part of the action from the beginning. Wednesday, October 29, saw several dual-approved event winners named.

In the ApHC and NSBA Three Year Old Snaffle Bit Hunter Under Saddle, Beth Case piloted Handsoffmyartifacts for owner Megan Wagner. It was the second year in a row that Case catch-rode the world champion for Wagner, and the pair were the unanimous choice of the judges. The trio won the Two Year Old Snaffle Bit Hunter Under Saddle at the 2013 World Championship Appaloosa Show and four world championship titles in total last year. The gelding is by All Hands On Zip and out of Miss Artifactual (by Indian Artifacts).

“He really just does his job,” Case said. “He’s so good, and he has all three gears. He was really good today.” The trio also won the Breeders Choice Incentive Fund portion of the class.
