Nancy Ellen Lesley Russ, age 79, of Pearlington, MS, passed away at her home on September 14, 2014, peacefully with her loved ones around her. She was born in Jerico, MS on November 29, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Laura Lesley of Baldwyn, MS, and an infant daughter, Ellen.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles A. “C.A.” Russ, III, a daughter, Katherine Russ, a son, Lesley Russ, of Pearlington, a sister, Mary Neva (Nate) Wright, of Fayetteville, GA, and her caretaker, Diana Sharp.
She began helping on her parent’s farm at an early age which gave her a passion and love for horses. She continued on to graduate from Baldwyn High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women. During her time at college, she met her future husband, C.A Russ, where they married and moved to South MS. She later graduated from MS Southern College and began her teaching career in South MS and St. Tammany Schools. During that time, she started doing sponsored AQHA Horse Shows. She retired after 36 years of teaching but never retired from doing sponsored AQHA horse shows around the country.
She was a member of Old Town Presbyterian Church of Bay St. Louis where she loved the people of the church and cooking and doing lovely handy work.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, from 6 – 10 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach.
The funeral service will be at 10 am on Wednesday at Old Town Presbyterian Church, Bay St. Louis where friends may visit from 9 – 10 am. Burial will be in Courtenay Cemetery, Pass Christian.
