Final Day and Wrapup from World Cup–July 13, 2014

The Youth World Cup is officially over, but the memories and friends will last forever. USA ended up winning High Point Team, taking home the gold and buckles! The awards ceremony was held at the Hilton Hotel and featured a Texas tradition, chicken and waffles. (They were delicious by the way) None of this would have happened without Dawn Forest, Nancy Cahill, Suzy Jeane, and Michelle Tidwell. All of us are so grateful for their help these past 10 days as well as the preparation put into this huge event.

I went into this not knowing one person on the team, but I’m leaving with basically a second family. We all met youth from around the world, tried to learn words in different languages, and had a great time. The Youth World Cup was an experience I’ll never forget and I will always have special memories to cherish.

Days 11 and 12, Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12th, 2014

Pete Kyle and Bud Lyons were present to hold a clinic for the reiners on Friday. USA member Kalee McCann had a great run and earned two 3rd place finishes. It’s so hard to believe that today was the last day of competition. We’ve all been here since the 3rd but it’s been a blast.
USA had another exciting moment when we won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Horsemanship. Our trip together is almost over but I never imagined I would become such close friends with each and every member in such a short time. Tomorrow will be our last day together when the country that won overall will be announced!

Day 10, Thursday July 10th

Today was a great day for USA! Here’s a little recap of the results:
Graysen Stroud-
2nd Equitation
4th Showmanship
6th Horsemanship
7th Western Riding
Ali Fratessa-
3rd Equitation
8th Hunter Under Saddle

Finalist Horsemanship

Kalee McCann-

1st Equitation

I won the Horsemanship and was 6th in Hunter Under Saddle. The stands went wild when they unveiled one by one the top three placings in the Equitation, because each one was an American flag. None of this would have happened without the support and help from our coach and manager as well as the leaders. (Mary Claire Cornett, Lindsay Brush, Colby Ringer, Chloe Bening, and Bailey Cook) Tomorrow is Reining day, good luck to Jack Medows and Kalee McCann.

Day 8-9, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 8th and 9th
The clinics have been so helpful to everyone participating as well as the spectators. The trail clinic this morning was held by Suzy Jeane, Michelle Tidwell, Vicky Holt, Becky George, Mark Dunham, and Sharon Wellman. Hunter under saddle clinicians were Mark Dunham and Vicky Holt. I want to thank each one for putting time into helping us; I have learned so much these past few days.

After the clinics and lunch, it was time for everyone to get ready for the big day tomorrow–show day! All horses were clipped, bathed, and banded or braided. Later on we attended the YES Conference where they announced new Youth Officers and Directors. Shoutout to USA World Cup members Kalee McCann, President, Mary Claire Cornett, Vice President, as well as Ali Fratessa and Graysen Stroud, two new youth directors. I’m so proud of everyone.

Day 3-5th–Saturday through Monday, July 5-7th
The World Cup schedule is jammed with activities all day everyday. Day 3 started with some clinics, which everyone has appreciated tremendously. Western Riding clinicians were Robin Frid and Adam Wainscott, good luck to Graysen Stroud on Team USA, Showmanship clinicians were Jenny Frid, Caroline Rogers, Michelle Forness, and Katie Lisabeth. Our “Showmanshipers” are Graysen Stroud, Kalee McCann, and Ali Fratessa. Later in the evening it was pizza and movie night. Our movie of choice was Pitch Perfect, we’ve been quoting the movie ever since.

Day 4 began with a Horsemanship clinic with Jenny and Robin Frid and Becky George with a Western Pleasure clinic with Adam Wainscott and Ricky Spinks. Our Horsemanship exhibitors are Ali Fretessa, Graysen Stroud, and myself. Pleasure exhibitors are Jack Medows and myself.

Day 5 was the Cutting show day, we traveled to Centerville, TX for the competition. Team USA member Kalee McCann did an amazing job and represented us well, earning 6th and 7th place medallions, Germany won overall. Later on we had the chance to attend the YES Conference. The day started this morning with an Equitation clinic with Sharon Wellman and Mark Dunham.

Day 2-Friday July 4, 2014
The second day of the AQHA World Cup started this morning with the parade of teams and horse draws. Before we walked into the arena, Coach Nancy Cahill told us that our national anthem would be like nothing before and she was right. It was special standing in the center of the arena as the representatives for USA. Our manager, Suzy Jeane, dressed in full “Aunt Samantha” attire according to our very own, Jack Medows. Then, all countries drew their horses and began working with them.

Right now all teams are back at the dorms getting ready for a big Fourth of July celebration. I’ve heard there will be hay wagons and fireworks, so it’ll be a party!

Day 1-Thursday July 3, 2014
It’s the first day here in Bryan/College Station, Texas, where competitors and team members are flooding in from 16 countries. The Brazos County Expo will be claimed by the AQHA Youth World Cup for the next ten days, from July 3-July 13. This isn’t just a competition, it’s an international experience where youth members have the chance to meet other horse enthusiasts. All horses are generously donated by AQHA members in the host country, which is of course the US this year.

The youth representing USA got to get together and we are all honored to be on this team. Members include Jack Medows, Alessandra Fratessa, Kalee McCann, Graysen Stroud, Bailey Cook, Mary Claire Cornett, Colby Ringer, Chloe Bening, and Lindsay Brush, and myself. As well as our Coach, Nancy Cahill, and Team Manager, Suzy Jeane. Each country will have riders to compete in nine different events including: cutting, reining, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle and showmanship. This is only the first day and you can feel the excitement in the air!
