“Lazy feels like a Cadillac. He’s pretty smooth,” says 17 year-old Virginia Owen of Greenville, South Carolina when asked what it is like to ride one of the greatest western pleasure horses of all-time. “Even though he’s the best horse in the world, I still have to ride him and make him work. He lives up to his name, he is lazy when he gets tired.”

While One Lazy Investment and Kenny Lakins were the 2012 AQHA Reserve World Champions in the Senior Western Pleasure and the 2011 AQHA World Champions in the Junior Western Pleasure, Virginia and Lazy are still searching for their first world championship title. In 2012, Owen and Lazy were unanimous Congress Champions in the Youth 12-14 Western Pleasure.

“That was such an amazing ride,” says Owen about her Congress ride in 2012. “I will never forget it as long as I live. As soon as we entered the pen, Lazy and I showed our hearts out. That was the first time I had to come off the rail, but I came off with confidence. There’s nothing like loping out of the line up when the announcer congratulates the Congress Champion and has your name in the same sentence.”

Virginia, a senior at Shannon Forest Christian School, says that Lazy has quite the personality. “He is so smart and very athletic, he’s a jock. He knows he’s beautiful and loves attention. When we hit the show pen, he shows himself off and gives it his all. He’s such a fun horse to ride and show. He’s my best friend.”

One Lazy Investment is hoping to continue his winning streak with recent circuit championships in the 14-18 Youth Western Pleasure at March Madness and wins in the NSBA Maturity Ltd. Non-Pro Western Pleasure and NSBA Maturity Open Western Pleasure at the Little Futurity.

Look out for Lazy and Virginia at the AQHYA World Show in the western pleasure and in the near future showing in the western riding.
