When the final placings were being called in the Non-Pro Three and Older $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class at Tuesday night’s A Little Futurity, Trainer Rusty Green was singing ‘Rocky Top’ at the end gate of the indoor arena at the James B. Hunt Jr. Horse Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Green had a lot to sing about. Rock County Kid, whom he had ridden to the win in the Three and Four Year Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class the night before, swept the second slot class – the Non-Pro Three and Older $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure – with owner Sharnai Thompson riding. The class featured $20,000 added, with first place paying $9.920.00. Ty Paris and The Only Leading Lady rode to the reserve title and $7,440 for Becky Schooler.

Rusty Green and Rock County Kid Top Monday’s Little Futurity
Rusty Green and Rock County Kid continued their winning ways by earning the biggest check of the day in the Three and Four Year Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure during Monday’s A Little Futurity. Green and Rocky earned $13,760 for owner Sharnai Thompson.
“He just keeps getting better,” Green said following the class. “We had a really great go. He felt great.”
“I think we’ve owned him for about a month and half now,” added Thompson. “We bought him from Carl Yamber. If it wasn’t for Carl, we would have never known about him.” Earlier this year, the gelding won the NSBA $2,500 Limited Horse Three Year Old Western Pleasure at Show For Dough as well as the Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure with Thompson riding at the Big Country/Amateur Spring Show in Waco, Texas. The gelding will continue to show in three year old Open and Non-Pro events this year.
