Our industry is full of many types of people with diverse backgrounds who all share one thing, a love of horses. But there is so much more than meets the eye to many of these people. We asked one of the leading hunter under saddle and western pleasure riders, Katy Jo Zuidema to list the Top 10 things she loves and hates. For anyone who knows Katy Jo, she is opinionated and often times, no holds barred in her comments. When she recently wrote on Facebook how much she liked the 10 Things I Love and Hate series, we thought we would give her the opportunity to tell us hers!
- My son, JR. He’s just the best kid ever. He’s kind and he’s handsome and he has my sense of humor. He really makes me laugh!
- My husband, TZ. I can’t say enough awesome things about him. He’s my rock; he’s my love and he’s my most fun drinking buddy. We’re like brothers in arms with benefits.
- My home. I love Florida, and living so close to Gainesville which is the home of the University of Florida and our farm is beautiful. I think it’s my paradise.
- Horses. Truly, madly, deeply embedded in my soul.
- Music. It sets the tone for every occasion.
- Laughing. It’s infectious and one of my favorite things to do.
- Vacation. Preferably Mexico and always with TZ.
- Getting a massage. They are epic, I love getting rubbed on.
- Good smells. Whether it’s cologne or the ocean, or freshly bedded stalls, I’m big on smells.
- Horse show days when I don’t have anything showing. It’s a combination of all the best parts of my job without anywhere else to be and no pressure.
- Jealousy and insecurity. They bring out the worst in people.
- Entitlement.
- Technology, it’s my nemesis.
- Bathing suits, because nobody wants to see me in one of those!
- Dieting. My weight is one of my biggest struggles. I’m not genetically thin by any means.
- Leaving my kids and my dog and my home for shows. I get grumpy and sad.
- Paper work
- Getting up early. I’m not a morning person.
- Pressure. I hate disappointing people, especially myself.
- Putting laundry away. I don’t mind washing or folding but something about putting it away really stinks.
