Kaylee Mellott may have thought it would be difficult replacing her multiple Congress Champion partner, Only In Showbiz (Juan) who she sold after the Congress this year. However, World and Congress Champion, Cool Assets (Nemo) may just be the horse to rise to the challenge. Mellot and Nemo will be a new team for 2014 showing in the youth all-around events.
“I love his personality and how cute he is,” says Kaylee, who says they plan on making their debut at the Arizona Sun Circuit in February. “My goal is to accomplish as much as we can and get qualified for the AQHYA World Show.”
Cool Assets’ owner, Emily Cramer Istre, told GoHorseShow that she decided to lease Nemo to Mellott for the 2014 show season because she recently got married and started a family. As far as how a lease works, AQHA requires the leasee to cover the horse’s expenses, last a minimum of a year, and be on record with AQHA.
According to Cramer, her trainers, Charlie Cole and Jason Martin thought that Nemo would be a great fit for Kaylee. “I’ve seen her show Juan, and gotten to know her the past few years. She’s amazingly talented, and loves her horses,” Emily states. “Since we have put the horsemanship on him, she can do all of her events, and even dust off his showmanship moves. He loves to show, and I want him to do what he’s great at with someone who will love and appreciate him.”
As far as Emily’s future goals with Nemo? “We will take it a year at a time, Nemo’s health and happiness are absolutely the most important thing. He will always have a home with me. I doubt I will show the western again anytime soon, but never say never, right?”
Cramer and Cool Assets won the Amateur Versatility at the 2012 Congress. In 2010, he was awarded a World Championship in the Amateur Western Riding. This talented gelding was also the 2005 World Champion in Junior Hunter Under Saddle, the 2006 Youth Reserve World Champion in Hunter Under Saddle, and the 2007 World Champion in the Youth Hunter Under Saddle. The 2001 brown gelding by Investment Asset and out of Goodbars Glamour Girl was also the 2005 High Point in the Youth and Junior Hunter Under Saddle. Nemo has accumulated over 1000 points in seven different events, a Performance Championship, and seven superiors.
