Keystone Showdown: It’s Not Just A Show..It’s An Event

“Fun is Number 1” is the theme of the 2013 Keystone Showdown AQHA horse show that will be held June 19th through the 23rd in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania. The show is offering five sets of points in four days. There is an all Novice/Rookie show on June 19, and also a free roping clinic with Donna Crossman. The novice judge is Donna Crossman and the rest of the AQHA judges include Jennifer Leckey, Tracy Willis, Chris Jeter, Sally Puzacke, and Manita McCool.

“We refer to our show as an event,” says Craig Ferguson, who is show manager for the show for the third straight year. “We offer fun, excitement and the upmost hospitality and match that with large entry numbers and a great facility set in the scenic Nittany mountains of Pennsylvania. We take pride in separating ourselves from the rest by offering non-show outlets for attendees to participate in. Just two years ago, this club held the show at a different location and had under 100 stalls rented, may have been under 75. Today, we have quadrupled that number and our stalls numbers are a true reflection of the exhibitors that show. We are now the show that is often imitated but never duplicated.”

As far as prizes that will be offered, any exhibitor will be eligible to enter in a drawing to win a flat screen HDTV. Also, an exhibitor that enters both days in the Mike Whitmore Memorial non-pro walk trot/jog will be eligible to win a Skeeters Training Saddle. A back number will be pulled to determine the winner. Last year, this class had 44 entries, so, any one of the 44 entries would have been eligible to win the saddle. Also, $1200 was added to this class for payback. The show is offering a Dale Chavez belt buckle to our Trifecta Champion. This exhibitor must show in their respective halter, trail, western pleasure and/or hunter under saddle class.

“In specific classes, exhibitors will be able to reach into a money bag and hopefully pull out the largest bill,” Ferguson says. ‘We are also offering class circuit awards, all-around and high point awards.”

There will also be some other fun events during the show. Wednesday night, there will be a roping clinic; Friday night–their annual Hoedown at the Showdown which is a pig roast with games and door prizes then a live band. The band is The Jesse Wade Gang, a well know band on the East Coast. Saturday night, KQHA will provide a pizza party. Throughout the show, the youth will be offering events every evening as well–doggie trail, balloon and egg toss, a 50-50 drawing and more.

“We also have two mascots–the Keystone Kid and the Keystone Kowboy. They make appearances at all of our events and hand out snacks and refreshments to the exhibitors,” Ferguson says.

The show also offers dual approved NSBA classes. Ferguson is currently accepting stall reservations. Please contact Craig Ferguson at [email protected] or call 717-870-4873 for more information.
