AQHA Announces Dates and Locations of Novice Championship Shows

With the success of last year’s inaugural AQHA Novice championship shows, AQHA will once again hold the events in Las Vegas and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The 2013 SmartPak AQHA West Novice Championship Show is slated for the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, while the Nutrena AQHA East Novice Championship Show will return to the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro.

The events are tentatively scheduled for October 2-6.

“The hospitality that competitors and their supporters received last year at both locations was fabulous, making the decision to return an easy choice,” said AQHA Executive Director of Shows Patti Carter-Pratt. “Plans are already in the works to make this year’s Novice championships that much more of a success.”

The qualifying period for the 2013 Novice championships is May 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013. Competitors may qualify through either national or affiliate methods, and qualifiers may choose which Novice championship to attend. Find qualifying methods at www.aqha.com/novicechampionships.

The 2013 Novice championships will also see the much-anticipated addition of over fences classes: hunter hack, working hunter and equitation over fences. View the full list of 2013 Novice championship classes. Cattle classes will not be featured at the 2013 Novice championships, but plans are in the works for cattle classes in 2014.

This year’s Novice championships feature a flat entry fee of $300 per horse-and-rider combination. The fee includes up to three classes, office and drug-testing fees, plus one stall. Tack stalls may be purchased for $100, and exhibitors will also need to pay for shavings. Each additional class, after three, will cost an additional $35 per class. No classes are offered on an individual basis without the $300 flat fee being paid first. The deadline to enter will be September 1, and no entries will be taken on-site.
