All-Time Great Majestic Scotch Passes Away

GoHorseShow is sad to report the passing of all-time great, Majestic Scotch (Dicky), due to a bone infection in his foot. According to Jason Martin of Highpoint Performance Horses, part of his coffin bone was dying, but the veterinarians couldn’t figure out why it was happening. Unfortunately, the infection was getting worse and was not improving.

“It’s with the utmost certainty that I can say, I will never again sit on anything as extraordinary as Majestic Scotch,” says owner, Sharnai Thompson. “In 2005, he taught me how to be a winner. In 2006, he taught me how to stay a winner. I’ve missed him ever since. He was my first, he was my best, and he will always be the one I am most thankful for. I love you Dicky.”

The 1994 sorrel gelding was retired last year to Tammy Dyer and Sharnai Thompson’s farm in Texas. He was bred by Donald and Jean Bangasser of Ackley, Iowa. The multiple Congress and World Champion was by One Scotch Delight and out of Two Eyed Natches. He was also just inducted into the performance division of the NSBA Hall of Fame.

“Greatest horse ever,” says former owner Susie Johns. “Loved by so many. What an honor to have owned and ridden him. Two world champions, All Around Select Amateur at World Show, honor roll champion. What more could he have done for me? Thanks for the memories Majestic Scotch!”

Jeff Johns, who also showed Dicky when his mother, Susie Johns, owned him says that the talented gelding will be missed.

“It was an honor and a privilege to have shared some great rides with you Dicky. You truly were one of the ‘Great Ones,'” Johns states.

Majestic Scotch accumulated nearly 4000 points in several events including the western riding, western pleasure, halter, trail, horsemanship, equitation, and showmanship. Dicky is a very special horse to Charlie Cole because he fulfilled a dream of winning an AQHA World Championship at the World Show in the Western Pleasure. Charlie and the talented gelding won the Senior Western Pleasure back-to-back in 2006 and 2007.

“I started my training career interested in the western pleasure, and it was one of my biggest goals to win the world in the pleasure and he helped me reach that goal. He also helped me win my first world championship in the western riding.” Charlie recalls. “He was such a great loper and talented mover and was also one of those horses that gave 100 percent.”

Martin said that Dicky was a horse that never said, “No”. “Dicky made all of his riders famous. Everyone that has crossed paths with him became a winner. Dicky helped Amanda Addy, Charlie Cole, Sharnai Thompson, Tammy Dyer, Pamela Bilek and Susie Johns become successful in the show arena–that says a lot about how great a horse he has been over the years.”

Cole agrees, “Majestic Scotch was a dream maker. He helped my dreams come true, as well as several owners like Sharnai fulfill her dreams in the show arena. He was one of the greatest of all-time and he will be missed.”
