Quarter Horse Congress Announces New Halter Futurity Program

The All American Quarter Horse Congress is proud to announce a brand new futurity program in 2013: The Congress Breeder’s Challenge Futurity – Halter Division. This futurity program will include a brand new halter event at the 47th annual Quarter Horse Congress, held October 4-27, 2013 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio.

“We have a number of OQHA Directors and exhibitors that are very passionate about both the halter discipline and the Congress,” said Dr. Scott Myers, Ohio Quarter Horse Association Executive Director. “We worked together to come up with a new and exciting program to showcase the Halter industry, and we believe that the Congress Breeder’s Challenge Futurity – Halter Division will be the premier event for breeder’s and exhibitors in 2013.”

Breeding Stallions–First, breeding stallion owners will enroll their stallion each year to make all get born that year eligible to be nominated to the Congress Breeder’s Challenge Futurity – Halter Division. Enrollment will be $1,500 each year, due February 1st, however in 2013, breeding stallion owners can enroll for a reduced fee of $750 with an extended deadline of March 15th. 100 percent of all stallion enrollment fees will be paid back, and there is no limit to the number of stallions that can be enrolled.

Futurity Classes–Each year, there will be 10 Congress Breeder’s Challenge Futurity – Halter Division classes, which include:• Weanling Fillies, Open and Non-Pro• Weanling Stallions/Geldings, Open and Non-Pro• Yearling Fillies, Open and Non-Pro• Yearling Stallions, Open and Non-Pro• Yearling Geldings, Open and Non-Pro

In 2013, only weanling classes will be offered.

Weanling entries include a $100 nomination fee due April 1st, which makes the foal eligible for weanling and yearling classes, as well as a $150 sustaining payment due June 1st and a $250 final payment due August 1st.

Yearling entries include a $100 first payment due April 1st, $150 sustaining payment due June 1st and a $250 final payment due August 1st. The weanling nomination fee must have been paid for the foal to be eligible to enter yearling Congress Breeder’s Challenge Futurity classes.

Entry forms will be in the Congress Futurity & Sweepstakes Entry Book, which will be mailed and available for download in early February.
