David Dellin Announced as APHA’s New Director of Judges

Judge and champion horse trainer David Dellin of Purcell, Oklahoma, has accepted the position of director of judges with the American Paint Horse Association and will begin duties on January 2.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Dellin will be responsible for leading the APHA judge education efforts as well as monitoring its two World Championship Shows and other APHA shows across the United States in 2013.

“David’s expertise and enthusiasm will be contagious. Our judges will love his constructive approach to education,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “We have outstanding judges and the addition of David will only give our judges and exhibitors more confidence in the ring.”

Dellin will also work closely with APHA’s Judges Committee, which is chaired by APHA Judge and Colorado State University Professor David Denniston.

“The addition of this position is in the continued spirit of the APHA’s effort to continue to improve support and resources for all APHA judges,” Denniston said. “David is a well respected teacher, horseman and judge, and I’m sure will bring many ideas for continued education to the forefront which will positively serve our judges and exhibitors.”

Dellin, an AQHA judge, is also a frequent educator at APHA and AQHA judges’ seminars. Among his many accomplishments in the show ring, he has trained multiple world championship horses.

Additionally, Dellin is a national officer for the National Snaffle Bit Association and serves as its second vice president. Dellin will be working from his home in Oklahoma that he shares with his wife, Julie, and two sons, Gage and Lane. He also holds judging cards with both AQHA and NSBA.
