2013 Point Ranges Announced for AQHA Leveling Program

The 2013 point ranges, which determine levels under the new AQHA leveling program, are available online. Visit www.aqha.com/leveling to download the 2013 level point ranges.

Full implementation of the AQHA leveling program starts January 1, 2013. While leveling is not mandated for every AQHA show, all shows have the option to level classes.

“As its name suggests, the leveling program levels the playing field,” said Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows. “The program ensures that horses and exhibitors of similar abilities compete together, which in turn progresses horses and retains exhibitors.”

Leveling breaks divisions – youth, amateur and open – into levels based on either horse or exhibitor records. Levels based on the exhibitor’s record are:

  • Rookie
  • Novice
  • Intermediate
  • Open

Levels based on the horse’s record are:

  • Rookie
  • Green
  • Progressive
  • Open

Rules SHW113, SHW245, SHW250, SHW251, SHW252 and SHW260 in the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations define the leveling program. The 2013 handbook will be available soon. To learn more about the new leveling program and to find an exhibitor or horse’s level for 2013 competition, visit www.aqha.com/leveling.
