Novice Amateur Randy Kimmel of Covington, Ohio and his mount, I Like Itin The Dark (Callie) took home the win in the Novice Amateur Western Pleasure at the East Coast Championship Show in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. On early Sunday afternoon, the new team beat out over 141 exhibitors to take home the gold trophy, championship neck ribbon and championship buckle.
This is Kimmel’s first year of competing in the western pleasure classes, and Randy says he has enjoyed every minute. “I have watched my daughter, Annelise, show for fourteen years, and I am now trying my hand in the show arena,” says Kimmel, outside the Miller Coliseum right after his win. “Where else can I hang out with 18 pretty women!” Kimmel says laughing, referring to the fact he was the only male exhibitor in the finals.
All joking aside, Randy would like to thank his family, especially his wife, for all their help and support. His trainer Mike Hawkins of Ocala, Florida, says he is really proud of Randy. “He has worked hard all year, and I am looking forward to seeing him show in the Novice Amateur and the Maturity Non Pro Classes at the Congress,” Hawkins says.
Also look out for his daughter, Annelise Kimmel, showing Callie in the Novice Amateur Western Riding at the Congress. Also, if you are at the Congress, make sure to stop by and visit her furniture stores, Carolina Moon and Wild West Furniture.
