GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Ken and Marilyn Masterson and Mitch Leckey for winning the Congress Limited Three Year-Old Western Pleasure with their new new horse, Suddenly Its Time (Susie) on Friday night. Suddenly Its Time is by the Masterson’s stallion, RL Best Of Sudden and out of Huntin Tee Time. Ken and Marilyn recently purchased the three year-old bay mare from Linda Berris of Sparta, Michigan.
“My husband bought her for me at the Reichert,” says Marilyn, who will be showing her in the amateur pleasure next year. “I rode her for ten minutes and that was it. Of course, I love her because she is by our stallion, but she has a fun personality and is great to be around. She loves to snuggle up and be a ham in front of the camera. I think we will get along great together.”
Ken Masterson adds, “I had been looking for a horse by our stallion for Marilyn to show, and Greg Wheat told us about the mare. When Marilyn tried her out, it was just a beautiful picture. Her movement is gorgeous, and I think the mare represents the ideal picture of what a western pleasure horse should look like. We couldn’t be more excited and pleased.”
Marilyn says that Susie will remain at the Leckeys so they can transition her to a bridle and help Marilyn learn all Susie’s buttons.
“We will eventually want to take her home, but I think the best place for her to be right now is with Mitch and Jennifer. They did a great job preparing her for the class last night and she looked beautiful. She is so athletic and great-minded and wants to please. I felt like she was one of the crowd favorites because so many people were rooting for her from the stands. I’m so excited that we were able to purchase her.”
Marilyn says that she may qualify her for both the Amateur and Amateur Select World Show next year in the western pleasure, but the plans for the mare aren’t set in stone.
“We would like to thank Greg Wheat for telling us about this mare, and for the Leckeys for doing such an outstanding job with her,” Ken says. “Jennifer and Mitch have been so gracious working with us and helping us get to know the mare in such a short time. We really appreciate all their effort and support.”
