Affidavit Document Released for Shirley Roth Arrest Warrant

GoHorseShow.com has obtained a copy of the Arrest Warrant Affidavit
from the City of Fort Worth filed by Detective Brady with the Fort Worth Police
Department on September 21, 2012.  The
Affidavit accuses Shirley Ann Roth of Cruelty To Livestock Animals, Penal
Code 42.09 (a) (1) for an incident occurring on September 8 at the Will Rogers
Coliseum during the Reichert Celebration.

The Fort Worth Police Department has accused that Ms. Roth “Did then and there
intentionally or knowingly torture, kill in a cruel manner, or cause serious
bodily injury to an animal to wit; A red roan 2-year-old quarter horse stallion
by causing numerous abrasions, swelling and contusions on multiple areas of the
body.”

Ms. Roth was suspended by AQHA and NSBA effective September 19, 2012.  The Warrant of Arrest by the Fort Worth Police Department was
filed on September 21.  Ms. Roth posted $5,000 bail on September 25.  She has an extradition hearing set for
October 26.

Ms. Roth, who maintains her innocence, declined to comment at this time. In an October 4 email from her attorney, Reagan Wynn, to GoHorseShow.com, Mr. Wynn stated the following:

“As no formal criminal charges have been filed to date and the investigation is ongoing, it would not be appropriate for Ms. Roth to make any statement at this time. We are conducting our own investigation into this matter and are confident that, once all of the facts are known, it will be clear that Ms. Roth is a well-respected proffessional (sic) trainer and breeder who has taken all reasonable steps to care for her horses and that she has committed no criminal offense.”

Although an undoubtedly unfortunate circumstance, it is GoHorseShow.com’s opinion that this situation does not accurately reflect those caring for and training horses, or our show horse industry, as a whole.
