The Ford Youth World is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse exhibitors, ages 18 and under from around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. More than 2,400 entries from the United States, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Mexico, Sweden and Venezuela are competing for 34 world championships at this year’s event, August 3-11 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
New this year, the American Quarter Horse Association is conducting
town-hall-style meetings at events across the country. Sparked from
discussions at the AQHA Animal Welfare Commission, these meetings were
originally to give AQHA an opportunity to discuss animal welfare, proper
practices and treatment of horses. The meetings are open and give AQHA
exhibitors an opportunity to ask questions regarding AQHA guidelines on
animal welfare, as well as questions about AQHA show rules. AQHA Town
Hall meetings will be conducted at this year’s Built Ford Tough American
Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show.
The first Town Hall meeting was on August 2. The
second Town Hall meeting is at 8 p.m. on August 4 in Barn 8.
Also at the Ford Youth World, AQHA Executive Director of Shows Patti Carter-Pratt will be hosting a seminar on the new AQHA leveling program.
The seminar is at 4 p.m. on August 7 in the Sales Pavilion. The seminar
is focused on explaining the new levels of showing and answering all of
your leveling questions.
