The European Championships is in full spring in Kreuth, Germany, August 11-19th, featuring over 400 quarter horses from 18 nations in several different disciplines from halter to cutting to western pleasure and reining. The judges for the show include, Keith Longacre, Marilyn Randall, Mike Hay, Casey Devitt, April Devitt, Butch Carse, and Janette Steffl.
According to announcer Boris Kook, the first two days of competition were halter in the main arena and cowhorse in the small pen. The Senior Working Cowhorse Champion was once again Slidin On Diamonds, multiple German and European Champion with Phillip Martin Haug in the saddle. “There have been multiple paid warm ups and if last night’s pleasure warm up was anything to go by (30 head) the pleasure classes will be well attended,” Kook said.
“All the best Quarter Horses of Europe are here–it’s great seeing such high level horses compete,” says amateur competitor Cathrin Gutmann. “It’s the first time this year without gorounds and finals- now we have eight judges and two gos and then the European Champion is being crowned.”
Stay tuned for more updates from the show!
