Kaleena Weakly Wins On Another Lazy Loper at NSBA World Show

Non-Pro rider Kaleena Weakly has had great success with prospects by Pine View Farms’ stallion, Lazy Loper, and the 2012 NSBA World Championship show in Tulsa, Oklahoma was no exception.  The show didn’t start exactly the way Weakly would have liked with her brand new two year-old, Caught Me Looking (Maria), but it had a fairytale ending.

In their first class together, the BCF Non Pro Two Year-Old Western Pleasure, Weakly rode Maria in the arena fresh and discovered that the mare didn’t care much for applause from the audience. The green two year-old wouldn’t stand still in the middle of the pen which resulted in the team placing third in their debut class—-but Weakly and Maria are thankful for second chances. In their next class, the Non Pro Two Year-Old, they looked like old pros and were crowned NSBA World Champion over 20 other talented futurity horses with three firsts and a second.

“The mare caught my eye because she is so flashy, good legged, and very kind and affectionate,” says Kaleena, whose trainer, EH Pait, found Maria when he was on a new search for a futurity horse. “We bought her from Kenny and Ashley Lakins who raised and trained her. She is also another one of my horses by Lazy Loper. I really enjoy working with them because they are all so talented and good minded.”

The gorgeous black mare, Caught Me Looking, is by Lazy Loper and out of a daughter of Sweet Talkin Chip. At the Tom Powers, Lakins won the Two Year-Old Stakes Class and $20,000 with the mare.

“EH and I went to check out several horses at Kenny and Ashley Lakins, but we decided the mare was the one we wanted. We really had to talk them into selling her because they really had no desire to part with her,” Weakly states. “This is the first time since 2003 that I’ve shown in the two year-old futurities. I’m glad to be back in the futurity arena because I love showing the babies, and I look forward to showing her in the three year-old futurities next year.”

Weakly has a knack for picking out futurity winners. Her last futurity winner, Lopin For A Chex, also by Lazy Loper, won the Three Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure at the Congress only sixty days after purchasing him. According to Weakly, she and her husband Josh spotted Lopin For A Chex (Lazy), at the Reichert Celebration in August of 2010 and bought him from Kentucky trainer Scott Haynes. Weakly sold him to Susan Johns following the Congress last year and he has gone on to have great success in Jim and Deanna Searles’ barn. Jim and Lopin For A Chex just won Reserve World Champion in Green Western Riding at the NSBA World Championship Show.

Weakly owns another Lazy Loper, a three year-old gelding, Livin Lazy, who is currently in training for the Three and Four Year-Old Trail Futurities. EH Pait found him on a YouTube video as a yearling.

“He is good in the pleasure but we feel he will be even better in the Trail, so we sent him to Jason Gilliam to learn the Trail, hoping he will do both next year,” Weakly says.

Debbi Trubee, General Manager of Pine View Farms along with Roger Landis, is very excited about the success of many Lazy Loper offspring at the NSBA World Show. Besides the success of Caught Me Looking, Lazy Like Yo Mamma won the BCF Two Year-Old Intermediate and Limited Non Pro. Also four of the Top 10 in the Two Year-Old Limited Non Pro were by Lazy Loper.

“It has been a great horse show for Lazy,” Trubee says. “The number one compliment I have been getting about the Lazy Lopers is how trainable all of them are–which is clearly shown by the number of Non Pros placing in the two year-old classes at the NSBA World Show. I really appreciate all the riders and trainers going out and representing our stallions so well in the show arena.”
