Spotlight On Youth World Cup Team Member Jenny Bivins

The last member of Team USA that we will be spotlighting is seventeen-year-old Jenny Bivins of Amarillo, Texas. Jenny has been riding for about ten years and shows in the hunter under saddle and trains with Tom and Leslie Lange and Jeff Burley of Greeley, Colorado. Jenny also enjoys hanging out with friends and family as well as shopping and traveling.

Where do you live?

Amarillo, Texas

What school do you attend and what grade are you in?

Tascosa High School, I will be a senior.

What are your plans for next year?

Attend my senior year of high school as well as show horses.

Have you traveled to Europe before? If so, when, where and why?

When I was nine, my family and I traveled to Sweden to visit my uncle while he was there serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Sweden. Along the way, we also went to London and Denmark. It was an amazing experience.

What’s your favorite memory from this trip?

The train ride from Stockholm to Denmark

Where else outside of the United States have you traveled?

I was in a wedding in Mexico when I was a little girl.

What are your equine accomplishments?

In 2010, I was eighth place at the Ford Youth World Show with my horse Iron Copy in the hunter under saddle. I was Reserve World Champion at the 2011 Ford Youth World Show with my horse Big League Potential, and I was the 2011 Congress Champion in the 15-18 Hunter Under Saddle.

Why do you think you got chosen for the youth world cup team?

I love to interact with people and I love being involved in leadership activities.

What are you most looking forward to during the YWC?

Meeting new people from all over the world!

What are you least looking forward to during the YWC?

I don’t exactly know yet!

What were your feelings when you found out you made the YWC team?

I was very excited and I felt very blessed to be part of such an amazing team.

If you were to create a playlist for your trip to Germany, what would your top three song choices be? 

Come Together; Fly Over States; Lights

If you could ride any horse alive or dead, what horse would it be?

I love riding English and showing hunter under saddle, so, I would have to say Hot Ones Only, he’s an amazing horse.

Tell me one thing about yourself that most people don’t know?

I am afraid of the dark.

What is a unique or quirky habit you have?

I bite my nails

If you had to chose one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why?

YOLO (You Only Live Once)

If you had to choose your career right this minute, what would you choose?

A lawyer

Who is your role model in the horse world and what is it about this person that makes you choose them?

My trainers, Tom and Leslie Lange and Jeff Burley. They are my role models because they are more than just my trainers–they push me to try my hardest, strive for greatness, and they make all of my dreams come true. These three people are like my family and I would be no where with out them.
