July begins the countdown to the AQHYA World Championship show for many young horse show competitors. Whether it’s their first trip to Oklahoma City or they have competed for many years, showing at the Youth World is an experience that these girls and boys will never forget. The July issue of GoMag features many Youth World competitors from all over the country and we wish each and every one of them the very best of luck.

Gabriella Salamone – From Cowgirl to Debutante
Gabriella Salamone is a Senior this year at Chaparral High School in
Scottsdale, Arizona. Although she is excited to finish high school, she has a lot to look
forward to during her senior year. She will take over as President of the
Arizona Youth Association in August and has many plans including growing the
major fundraising party “Sweethearts N Denim” at Sun Circuit 2013.
Community service has been an important focus for Gabriella who
spent last summer planting Bolsa wood trees in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador to
help a small, local community fund their children’s education. The summer of 2010
she spent time in Australia with People to People visiting local school
children. Being an animal lover, she hopes to get to South Africa next summer
for a photo safari and to see the animals in the wild.
In addition to riding horses, Gabriella has also been accepted to
the Scottsdale Honors Cotillion and will be learning the social graces of being
a debutante. The young women in the Cotillion will be helping the Crisis
Nursery in Phoenix, learning self defense and Gabriella is planning to learn
roping (in high heels) for her talent in the Cotillion Talent Show.
Gabriella will start visiting colleges this fall and plans to study
for her Arizona real estate license when she turns 18 in January. She’s
considering either a business or law degree to enhance her career in the real
estate industry.
She was honored last year at the AQHA Youth World to win 5th in
Hunter Under Saddle, 3rd Intermediate, and hopes to compete well in the four
major events she will be showing in 2012 with her all-around horse An Honest
Detail; Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Horsemanship and
Showmanship.
Being part of the AQHA and showing her horses has been a dream come
true for Gabriella. She is thankful that her parents support her passion and
especially Jim and Deanna Searles, as much family as trainers, teaching her to
ride and love life at the horse show.
