The 2012 Redbud Spectacular is currently underway at the Oklahoma City
Fairgrounds with large classes and fun events for the entire family. “Youth
and Amateur pattern classes are good sized,” says Amateur Brittany Boyd.
“Senior Trail had over 90 in it, and open western riding had
close to 40. The weather has cleared up, and I am loving the schedule
this year. Glad to be at the Redbud!”
The OQHYA had several fundraisers including basket auctions. There was also a dog show where the youth dressed up their dogs in fun costumes and a wine tasting welcome party. The Jerry Wells Halter Futurity was also held during the show with an estimated purse of $30,000. On Friday, there was family night with the Oklahoma City Redhawks where exhibitors were treated to a professional baseball game, and the AQHA Huntfield Hunter Derby Series will be held on June 6th.
Amateur Maggie Fortune, who just graduated from college, says that it has been a good show so far, and she says she is glad to be back in the show ring her with her mare, Fantastic Invitation. “I’m getting to see my friends, and there’s some good competition here as always which I love. I’m also with my barn and that’s always a good time. So, so far so good!”
