Rodrock Candids from the Tom Powers in Berrien Springs

The Jeff Brujack shows hosted by Tom Powers and crew started an exciting week of horse showing in Berrien Springs, Michigan, June 24-27. Horse trailers from all around the country could be seen in the camping area…not just from the Midwest but as far away as California, New York, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Missouri, Iowa and even from Nova Scotia (a trek of 1650 miles!).

Quality horses could be seen working out in numerous warm up arenas as the grounds crew was kept busy dragging and watering to keep the footing perfect. The weather in Michigan cooperated for the beginning of the week with cooler evenings and breezy summer days, but the temperature rose even as the competition got hotter. Tom Powers was pleased to say that as of the beginning of the week they had already sold 925 stalls, which was up 170 stalls from last year.

On Thursday, June 28, the Southern Belle held fourteen
classes, including the popular 3-Year-Old $2,500 Novice Horse Western
Pleasure Slot class! Classes were open to offspring of stallions that were sold in the 2012 Southern Belle Breeder’s Program.

“We are pleased to have the Southern Belle Invitational join us, and we think it will be a great partnership,” Powers says.

The Triple Challenge Futurity will follow, June 29-July 1st, and Tom Powers said that on Saturday they will pay a $30,000 purse because their stakes sales doubled, and next year, they will pay at least a $50,000 purse!

With the rising number of entries and growing prestige of these shows, it is clear Berrien Springs, Michigan is the place to be the last week of June.

Thanks to Katie Grossnickle who is at the show with her Putting On The Glitz trailer and to Kimm McDowell for the candids and rundown from the show sponsored by Rodrock Ranches. Stay tuned for more candids!
