Rodrock Candids and Results from Gordyville Illinois Youth Show

The Illinois Youth Quarter Horse Association had a great show this past weekend in Gordyville. There were four judges in two days including David Dellin, Brad Jewett, Brent Maxwell, and Judd Paul.

“The ILQHA youth had a pie-in-the face fundraiser. The show had decent
numbers, and the judges were great,” youth exhibitor Cori Flowers said. “It was the fundraising show for Illinois
youth kids and turned out to be really successful!”

There was also a free 4H clinic on Friday night with trainer Jeff Greaves that was a great learning opportunity for the youth exhibitors.

“We had roughly a dozen 4-H kids for two hours–one hour of showmanship and one hour of equitation/horsemanship,” Illinois Youth Advisor Alyssa Freeman told GoHorseShow. The next day we offered 4-H classes mixed in with our show. They were also given an all-around. We were really excited for this opportunity to introduce kids to our show and give the opportunity for a clinic from a great Illinois trainer. We hope it will become an annual event.”

Jeff Greaves adds, “I really enjoyed working with the 4-H kids this past weekend. We had a good turnout for the clinic. I was impressed with the level of talent these kids showed me and would love to see more events and clinics for these kids to participate in.”

Gordyville Show Manager Jody Quiram is a huge supporter of the youth, and she is always trying to bring new people into the industry. “We are always trying to increase the knowledge of the newcomer and help them be competitive,” said Jody Quiram. “This idea was great and it is always better to give back. There are so many talented people in our area and it is wonderful they give their time and expertise. It grows friendship, camaraderie and introduces new people to our industry.”

ILQHYA Youth Adviser, Jenny Drinkall said, “I am so proud of our IQHYA for reaching out to other associations, and making such big efforts to provide such a wonderful learning experience for others in the industry.”
