Something magical happens sometimes, the stars align, and everything seems to fall into place. Just ask Julie Majernik who bought hunt seat stallion, BR I AM (BR), two days after Christmas.
“I was in Florida the week before Christmas and Susan Stocker (her trainer) and I were sitting in her house chatting. One of her customers sent her a text that BR I AM, might be for sale,” Julie recalls. “In the text, she put my name in parentheses with a question mark after it. Susan and I both said why on earth would I be interested in this horse? I was not in anyway interested in buying a breeding stallion of his caliber.”
Majernik was familiar with BR I AM and loved the Duplicated Deck X Georgia Rabling horses, but the thought never crossed her mind to buy a breeding stallion. Julie decided to watch his videos and call to inquire about him.
“The more I heard about him the more I wanted him. I decided to sleep on it, and I woke up thinking I am the perfect candidate for owning a horse like him,” she recalls. “I’m an Amateur; I love horses, and as my full time job, I’m in marketing. I think I need this horse!”
So, while she was on Siesta Key Beach with Stocker, Julie made arrangements to have him vetted.
“I have never in my life bought a horse sight unseen and always said I never would. But for some reason, he was different. Everything just felt right, and I wasn’t worried about anything. I called and talked to everyone that had owned him, rode him, showed him, been around him before I made my final decision,” she remembers. “The best part of the story is that I was planning to go Florida for two weeks after Christmas instead of before, so had I not been with Susan when she heard the news, none of it would have even crossed my mind. I feel like I was meant to own him and everything was meant to be.” (Photo © Janelle Marie Photography)
Majernik bought the nine year-old stallion from Shane and Chad Christensen. BR has had other huge supporters such as Nancy Sue Ryan and former owner, Kevin McGrath and trainer Rick Skelly who broke him out for breeder Bill Rosenfeldt. Paige Quarterman showed him at the Congress to a Top Five place finish in the Limited Hunter Under Futurity and Top Ten in the Open. Julie says that every rider that has shown him remarked on how easy and fun he was to show.
“He acts like a 20 year old gelding; you would never have any idea he is a stud. He is kind, quiet, sweet and very smart. He has this humble yet confident personality,” Julie remarks. “I love his legs–he moves big and flat and is just so pretty to watch. However, I do think he missed his calling in the pleasure arena, he loves to jog around and lope. I think he needs some western girlfriends,” Julie says and laughs.
BR only has a handful of foals on the ground,” Julie says. “The two and three years-olds I have seen, I’m thrilled with. He has some hitting the ground in 2012 as well. I will showcase all of his babies on his website as soon as it’s complete.”
Majernik’s plans are to continue breeding and stand him. “He has not been advertised much in the past, and I am working on changing that,” Julie states. “He is such an amazing horse, and I want him to be given the chance he deserves. He has so much to offer, and, so far, I am more than pleased as to what I am seeing and hearing about his babies. I think BR is going to make a huge impact in the industry over the next few years, and, hopefully many more to come.”
BR I AM will be at MeanderCreek Farms in North Jackson, Ohio during the breeding season and Julie’s farm, Southern Creek Farms in Canfield, Ohio on the off season. His stud fee is $900.00 and will include the first collection and shipment. Julie is offering a breeding discount to owners of western mares and also multiple mares booked by the same owner.
“I am really looking forward to speaking to mare owners to help them decide if BR is a good fit,” Julie says. “I also welcome anyone to come see him in person. I will continue to do as much as I can for him once I get everything in place. It’s been a crazy time buying a stallion right before breeding season, but I am enjoying every minute that I spend doing it.”
