During the month of March, many will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break and college basketball’s March Madness. But in our horse world, the month of March is better known for the month that babies kick up their heels, people can ride outside and head to their first show of the year. In March, horses are being bred, you hope your chaps still fit, and there’s a new sense of excitement about the upcoming show year.
The March 2012 issue of GoMag salutes the month of March and all of the great things it represents.
ABOUT THE COVER
A stunningly beautiful 4 year-old, 16.2 hand sorrel gelding, Cool Krymsun Zip is by three-time World Champion One Hot Krymsun, out of World Champion Cool Lookin Lady and a full brother to two-time World Champion Cool Krymsun Lady.
As a two year old, “Splash” was started by Gil Galyean winning the NSBA Breeders’ Championship Futurity, placing ninth in the $250,000 Reichert Sports Medicine Challenge and were top 20 in the Two Year-Old Pleasure at the AQHA World Show.
Amateur Jason Wanderer purchased Splash in July 2011 and brought him home to Southern California where trainer Carolyn Rice began changing leads and working him over obstacles.
Wanderer explained “We’ve only been to three shows since he arrived and just hoped he could make it through the patterns.” These hopes became more than a reality when in September Splash won the Three Year Old Trail Futurity at the Fall Classic and went on to win the Three Year Old Hunter Under Saddle Futurity at the Scottsdale Classic.
Starting 2012 at the Arizona Sun Circuit, Splash was the Reserve Junior All-Around horse and in just one show qualified for the 2012 World Show in Junior Trail, Western Riding and Open Performance Geldings and won Reserve Circuit Champion in Junior Hunter under Saddle.
Watch for this promising young horse making a “Splash” at major shows throughout the country!
