GoHorseShow is sad to report the passing of beloved family horse, EBG Classic Creation (EBG). The 1986 sorrel gelding was owned by Mark and Clare Dunham of Jonesboro, Arkansas and was shown by their eight year-old daughter Sidney.
“He was a grumpy old man, but he loved my daughter,” Clare Dunham told GoHorseShow. “EBG was the horse she picked when she was itty bitty. She showed him in leadline when she was three and in the Small Fry classes. Last year, they were the Arkansas High Point Small Fry Champions.”
The twenty six year-old sorrel gelding became sick during the Dixie Nationals due to a twisted intestine and had to be euthanized. EBG is now buried at the Dunham farm in Arkansas. “My daughter was able to go say goodbye to him, and she goes and checks on him where he is buried and she misses him, but I think she understands it is a hard part of life.”
EBG was one of the last sons of Zippo Pine Bar and out of top producing mare, Fancy Hobby. He was also a superior western riding and horsemanship horse, Reserve Congress Horsemanship Champion with Jeff Pratt and also placed top 10 in the horsemanship at the AQHYA World Show. EBG was also the first horse Sidney learned to lope and Mark said that he was the first horse, at the age of 10, that he taught how to change leads. The Dunham family had EBG in their barn since 1996 with several different customers.
“I will miss the fact that he always tried to escape from his stall and when he came back from a horse show he always pranced back to his stall to let everyone know that he was back home,” Mark recalls. “We tried to retire him several times, but he never did well so I was glad he was able to show until the very end of his life. He loved to be a show horse, and he loved my daughter. I trusted him completely with my daughter and he will be difficult to replace and will be greatly missed.”
The Dunham family would like to thank everyone who helped them during this difficult time.
