Zips Chocolate Chip to Stay with Joe Jeane

In our November article, Joe Jeane Named Ranch and Stallion Manager at Rodrock Ranches, GoHorseShow revealed that Zips Chocolate Chip will be moving with Joe and Suzy Jeane from their farm in Texas to Darol Rodrock’s Ranch in Bucyrus, Kansas.

“It was really a no brainer,” Ann Myers, owner of Zips Chocolate Chip told GoHorseShow. “Joe and Chip have been together for 24 years and Darol has a beautiful facility plus he is wanting to build a state of the art breeding operation. It is an amazing opportunity for Chip to be involved with this new venture.”

Ann adds, “I tell people that Joe has been Chip’s executive director for 24 years and it makes no sense to break up such a successful partnership. Plus, I’ve known Darol for a long time and we get along great!”

At 27 years-old, we asked Ann whether she thought Chip would be overshadowed by some of Rodrock’s younger stallions. “Absolutely not–he has already proven himself and he has made his mark. He is the number one leading sire of AQHA western pleasure horses and his semen is still very viable.”

Myers says that Zips Chocolate Chip is a “magical horse” and everything has always come easy for him.

“With horses, more often than not, there is something that doesn’t go as planned. Your dream horse injures itself or something happens to derail what you have envisioned for your horse, but that has never happened with Chip,” Ann fondly says. “Everything has gone perfect with him and he never really tried that hard to become famous–it came naturally to him. He is a happy horse, wants to please, is very laid back. He would have been a great kid’s horse if he wasn’t a stallion. I think Chip should have been in a Walt Disney movie— He has that kind of personality….He could have been a star!!”

Myers said there are always fun things coming up that involve Chip. He was asked to be a Breyer horse which Ann said was exciting…..like winning the World! She also tells us about a story when a New York City publishing house called and said they wanted to put Zips Chocolate Chip in a coffee table book about chocolate. He ended up being in the 1001 Reasons to Love Chocolate book and he is on the page before Katherine Hepburn’s brownie recipe.

Myers is running a breeding special this year. If you book your mare before February 29th, the breeding fee will be $2500. The booking fee, which is non-refundable, will be $600 and the remaining breeding fee of $1900 is not due until the foal hits the ground! After February 29th, the breeding fee is still discounted but goes up to $3,000 with a $700 non-refundable booking fee and the remaining $2300 will be due when the foal is born. Contact Rodrock’s stallion manager, Joe Jeane, for more details at [email protected] or by phone at 940-372-8553. You can contact Ann Myers at [email protected] or by phone at 419-289-0980.
