The Champlin name has been in the headlines lately which prompted us to ask what ever happened to 1997 AQHYA World Champion, Christa Champlin? Christa's mother, Laurel Champlin, and sister, Cassidy, just won the
World and Congress on their new horse, Look N Hott, which we featured in
an article a few weeks ago.
There has been a running joke in our house about the hours
spent watching horse shows online for the last 5 weeks. I think about how long trainers and
horses have been on the road, knowing about the stress of competition, the
long hours and odd schedules that they keep.
All that has me wondering…

Oklahoma City isn't exactly the mid-point between Georgetown, Kentucky,
and Hastings, Minnesota. But it was the site of the AQHA World
Championships and the World Show Sale, and OKC was the place where
Bennie and Cheryllee Sargent made a decision about AQHA Champion
stallion Good Huh.
Hot N Blazing had a great 2011 show season, with 2 AQHA World Champions,
1 Reserve World Champion, 6 Congress Winners, 2 Reserve Congress
winners and 20 horses that were Top Ten at the Congress.
Jane Humes of Fort Dodge, Iowa has been showing quarter horses for over
27 years but had never won a World Championship until now. Jane says she
has been trying to "claw" her way to the top and finally reached her
goal at the AQHA World Championship Show. Within twenty four hours, she
won back-to-back gold trophies with her horses, Design By Leaguer and VS Check My
Pulse.

Air Ride Equipped knows what he’s doing out in the hunter under saddle ring, that’s for sure. On November 19, he didn’t mind showing AQHA Professional Horseman Keith Miller Jr. the ropes out in the Jim Norick Arena at the 2011 AQHA World Championship Show. “This is actually the first time I’ve ever shown at the World Show,
so to win it is just incredible,” beams Keith, a resident of Reidsville,
North Carolina.
On November 19, Harley D Zip and AQHA Professional Horseman Jason
Martin announced their retirement as a team from open classes. Jason
and "Harley" made the finals of the senior western riding finals for the
seventh time.
When Kenny Lakins Jr. and AQHA Professional Horseman Adam Wainscott were
the last men left in the arena after the junior western pleasure
finals, both felt it would be a win no matter what.
“Vino” made his first appearance at the AQHA World Championship Show as a 2-year-old in 2005. He had shown promise as the the $250,000 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Challenge winner at the 2005 Reichert Celebration, and did not disappoint in Oklahoma City, going home with the reserve world championship in 2-year-old snaffle bit western pleasure.
Laurel Champlin of Gardnerville, Nevada, loves hunter-style American Quarter Horses. In September, she earned a gold trophy at the Adequan Select World Championship Show in hunt seat equitation with Skys Blue Eyes. So she was understandably excited to see her up-and-coming horse, Look N Hott, win a gold trophy for her November 18 at the AQHA World Championship Show in junior hunter under saddle.
