Open for Suggestion (Hugh) is a gorgeous 2007 red roan stallion by Open Range and out of top producing mare, Fancy China. The owner and trainer, Shirley Roth, showed Hugh to a Top Five placing at the Congress Two Year-Old Master’s Class and she is anxiously waiting for his first foals to hit the ground in January.
“He is talented stallion that is great minded and incredible legged,” Shirley Roth told GoHorseShow. “I loved his sire, Open Range, but he is even better than him in mind and movement.”
Roth has an innovative breeding incentive for next year geared toward the mare owners and giving them a reason to continue breeding their mares. “The breeding fee will be $2,500 for Hugh next year, where $1,000 of it will be placed into an account and the total amount will be awarded to the top placing two year-old in either the Congress Two Year-Old Stakes or Congress Two Year-Old Master Class in 2015,” Roth says.
The mare owners will vote and decide which class they would like the money to go towards and whichever class gets the majority of the votes, the money will be rewarded in that class. “Ideally, I would like to breed 75 to 100 mares next year and have around $75,000 to $100,000 in the account to be awarded,” Roth says. “I think this will be good for the horse market and mare owners because the broodmares in foal to Hugh and the foals will instantly be more valuable. A person won’t have to buy a slot or send a horse to a trainer for a horse to have the potential to win the owner money.”
