According to Mike Jennings of Professional Auction Services, history will be made at the AQHA World Championship Sale on Friday.
“This is the first time we are aware of that an oocyte, or unfertilized egg has been offered in a show horse auction,” Mike Jennings tells GoHorseShow. “We know that owners of popular show mares or producers have been selling the oocytes in recent years. This creates an opportunity for the buyers to choose the sire of a foal out of a great mare.”
The great mare’s oocyte that will be offered as Hip 16 at the sale is the dam of Hot Ones Only who is the winningest stallion in AQHA History with eight World Championships and 10 Congress Championships. On Wednesday, he won the Junior Pleasure Driving with Charlie Cole. His dam, Hot Shot Hit is a 1997 brown thoroughbred mare owned by Jacob and Dr. Emily Miller, DVM, of Miller Quarter Horses located in Austinburg, Ohio.
“It is a different way to market our mare,” Emily Miller tells GoHorseShow. “It is also a way for a buyer to choose the mare and stallion from the very beginning. We may offer it in the future if people show interest at the sale.”
