Youth Exhibitor, Janet Brooks, Hits a High Note at Reichert

Fourteen year-old Janet Brooks is a multi-talented youth exhibitor who loves to perform, and not just in the show arena. This high school sophomore from Laurel Hill, Florida also has an amazing voice and has been singing ever since she can remember.

Recently, Brooks went into the studio and recorded a demo.  She sent it to the Reichert Celebration to be considered as a singer of the national anthem at the show.

“Singing has always been a natural love of mine,” Brooks tells GoHorseShow. “I have been attending the Reichert for four years and after seeing others sing for the Premiere Signature classes, I decided that this was the year I was going to sing the national anthem. Performing has gone wonderful and I feel right at home in the spotlight with a microphone in my hand.”

Janet has already performed twice during the 3 & Over Green Hunter Under Saddle and the Two Year-Old Open Western Pleasure, and she will be back Saturday to sing during the $250,000 Equine Sports Medicine Premiere Two Year-Old Class.

Brooks has also been doing well in the arena with her new horse, Sweet Movin Hotrod (Riley) who she purchased from Kaleena Weakly in April.

“The Reichert has been a fabulous show for Riley and me. We are really beginning to connect,” Janet says. “We won the NSBA Youth Futurity Class and the second day of AQHA Youth 14-18 Pleasure. I love the passion and natural drive to better myself in both showing and singing. The nerves, rush, and excitement are very similar with my experiences in both singing and showing.”

This talented young lady says her plans in both the show arena and singing are undefined and undetermined but she knows that she will continue performing in both as long as she enjoys it—which she says is looking like it will be for a very long time. Janet says she would like to thank J.R. Reichert, Terry Schroeder, Lara Youngblood and the Reichert team as a whole for a great time and opportunity.
