The European Championship of American Quarter Horses was held in
Kreuth, Germany, from the 12th to the 20th
of August. The weather was as
versatile as the competitor’s
nationalities. Participants came from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic,
Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Italy,
Luxemburg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovak, Sweden, Switzerland and the
USA.
The eight international judges were: Gretchen
Mathes (USA), Rhonda Replogle (USA), Clark Parker (USA), Tracy Willis
(USA), Rick Lemay (S), George Maschalani (G), Betsy Tuckey
(USA) and John Tuckey (USA).
As every year the opening classes were events like
Halter and Cowhorse. During the week the
all around rider had to get qualified for the finals
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Run offs in both the
Senior and the Youth 14-18 Trail probably made Saturday the most exciting
day. The final event of the European Championship was the
“Nations Cup” where every country was able to send
a team out of 4 rider competing in Reining, Trail, Pleasure and
Horsemanship. This is a a big fun part of the show where horses and rider are getting
painted, wear flags or ride bridleless and everybody is cheering
on their team.
Over all it was a very emotional event where dreams came true and tears of joy were
dropping. It was a lot of fun!
