The Stars and Stripes and Big A Circuit put on by The Georgia Quarter Horse Association is held July 1-10 at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia. Despite hot weather and a few thunderstorms, the show has been a success with some of the larger classes including the Senior Trail with over 70 entries, over 50 in the 14-18 Horsemanship, and 40 in the Youth Performance Halter Geldings.
The big wood chairs are back for circuit championships. Tons of other prizes, exhibitor parties, a silent auction, a children’s Painted Stick Pony competition and party, ice cream social, daily breakfasts, and a dog show are some of the exciting events happening during the show. There were also successful clinics put on by Tim Kimura and Lynn Palm. The judges for these circuits include: Gary Roberts, Stephanie Lynn, Marty Jo Hays, Suzy Jeane, Rick Christy, David Connors, Rhonda Replogle, David Warner, Andrea Simons, Garth Gooding, Scott Neuman, Clint Fullerton, Kelly Chapman, Pauline Cook and Jill Newcomb.
“Here in Conyers, as the weather continues to heat up, so does the competition. The youth have had a blast with the dog races, dog talent, dog/owner look alike, and jumping contests,” Janet Brooks who competes in the 14-18 Western Pleasure with her new horse, Sweet Movin Hotrod, told GoHorseShow.com. “The dog jumps got so high, the owners couldn’t jump them. The stick pony race was to die for! From 3 to 12 years-old, the kids were out there with their home decorated ponies flaunting their stuff–even in the middle of this heat stroke. The Big A has been really fun and very social. My friends and I have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and love the show atmosphere. The great shopping is just a plus.”
Horse show dad Kyle Rampey of Edmond, Oklahoma whose daughter, Kaylee Rampey is currently leading the nation in the Rookie 11 and under also says he has enjoyed the show. “I usually am very bored but this show has fun for the entire family. I even threw my hat in the ring and qualified for the World Show in the Amateur Performance Geldings!”
